HOW WILL I HELP YOU?

Whatever brings you through the door, seeking to change or feel better, you no longer need to face your problems alone. It takes courage to look at ourselves and to sit with the myriad emotions and situations that have constructed the person that we are today: the hardest part is the first step, acknowledging the problem and seeking help.

The consistency of meeting weekly, sharing your challenges, reflecting upon your life and creating change together creates a foundation of trust.

Our therapeutic relationship is crucial to the success of therapy and the research bears witness to that. How you relate to me, as a therapist, is also how you relate to others in the world.

For a more in-depth explanation of the types of theories I use in treatment please see the 'My Approach' page.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?

A couple of sessions might be all you want to start with, or as your self-project evolves, the landscape may change and open up to more than you thought possible. This is your therapy, it all depends on what you want to achieve and the investment you are willing to make in yourself.

My ability to help you is dependent on two key components.  Firstly, I need to better understand what your challenge is and the outcome you seek in order to determine that I am best suited to help you.  If not, I will refer you to a colleague who specialises in your requirements.

The most important factor is that you feel comfortable working with me and are confident that together we can achieve the outcome you desire.  I offer a FREE 20 minute consultation during which we will briefly discuss your case.

If at the end of this consultation you would like to book an appointment, my fees are £70 per 60 minute session for individuals and £105 per 90 minute session for couples.  Sessions can be conducted face-to-face or via web-conference.

Cancellations will be accepted at no charge if made at least 48 hours before your appointment.  Cancellations within this time will be charged for.

My Story

If you are reading this it is because you are looking to change something in your life. Whether you are seeking to improve your relationship with yourself or those close to you, I am here to support you on that journey. I am passionate about improving my clients’ mental health and am fascinated by people, their stories and how the brain works.

When I was a little girl in England I had my whole life mapped out. I was going to college to get a degree and then become a journalist championing the causes of injustice for the underdog. That was the plan. So I graduated with a degree in Politics and Government and then found myself in the middle of the recession of the early nineties.

The necessities of life diverted me from that goal to helping myself find employment. It took me on a path to the Middle East, where I worked in public relations and stock photography. Living and working in a different culture and the challenges of my career gave me the connection to people that I enjoyed, but I still felt as if I was searching for something. Then I discovered psychology: it was love at first sight!

I began a journey starting with self-help books, eventually progressing to study a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, California. Twenty years on, I am still as excited by the study of psychology and the practice of psychotherapy, as I was when I first found it. It has been a gift to my life that I look forward to sharing with you. In my work my emphasis is on you, the client, but I also bring all that I am to my practice, including my roles as a daughter, a sister, a partner and a parent; in addition to working as an immigrant in foreign cultures and my business experience.

My Story

Adult Therapy

Perhaps you are seeking some support through a difficult adjustment, or need to discuss your options candidly with someone who has no agenda in your life like friends and family members may have. I collaborate with my clients on a variety of problems and encourage you to seek a free consultation as this list is not exhaustive:

Psychology is part science and part art: we make decisions based upon what we know, however, our emotions prioritise the information. This can be as useful as it is misleading. Our eyes can deceive us when we experience optical illusions; our ears can deceive us when we do not receive information clearly or through cultural or factual misunderstanding; our mind can deceive us as memory is a flawed recorder, and cognitive bias predisposes us to pay attention to the negative and not the positive in life. Science cannot tell us everything but what it does provide is some measurable standard of care to ensure you receive quality treatment from your therapist.

Some of the challenges I can help you with include:-

  • Generalised Anxiety

  • Panic Attacks

  • Social Anxiety

  • Phobias

  • Adult ADHD

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Hoarding

  • Trichotillomania

  • Depression

  • Anger

  • Suicidal Thoughts

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Trauma

  • PTSD

  • Addiction

  • Complicated Grief

  • Bereavement

Couples Therapy

Don’t Wait! You deserve the best relationship you can have…

According to those who study relationships, couples wait more than six years before they get help for their relationship!

How can I help you?

Research has proven therapy can help a struggling relationship. Not all relationships can be saved, and not all marriages should be saved. It’s not all about learning how to fight fairly or being calm when your partner is erupting like Mount Vesuvius!

How we behave in relationships, make ourselves heard, or hide our feelings has been shaped by what we have witnessed and experimented with. I can help you grow together and recreate intimacy.

What are the benefits of a happy partnership?

The connection and friendship in a partnership makes you feel good and gives you the resiliency to bounce back when life gets you down.

John Gottman’s research on happy couples found that they live longer, healthier lives, than either divorced people or those who are unhappily married. An unhappy marriage weakens your immune system and can even shorten your life by an average of 4 years!

Success and happiness: Gottman also discovered that even more than IQ, your emotional awareness and ability to handle feelings will determine your success and happiness in all walks of life.

Ask yourselves these questions ...

Do we need Couples Therapy? What does a distressed couple look like?

Do you find yourself arguing and bickering all the time? Are your attempts to get along and cooperate met with denial and refusal?

Are you jealous? Despite the lack of evidence do you still distrust your partner?

Do you sometimes feel threatened (emotionally or physically) by your partner? Is this coercion happening repeatedly?

When you try and discuss difficult topics do you get to a decision or give up because you can’t see eye to eye?

Do you both feel a sense of hopelessness and despair in your relationship?

Are both of you making a concerted effort to prove the other partner as being impossible?

It’s not only hurting you…

It has long been recognised that marital and family relationships affect the development of children. The best familial predictor of childhood behaviour problems has been found to be marital discord.
